I think maybe in this you are referring to Supernova and Pulsar? They're pretty underwhelming and are basically just an extra hex or two. If you're a completionist, or have an extra five bucks to throw to the BGG store...
Otherwise, I second (or more accurately like fourteenth) the love for RotA. It adds more options and freshens the game.
