I think you're being a bit hard on their negatives. They don't really have that many. As far as I can figure, the only real negatives they have are:
- No dreadnoughts. But I wouldn't really call this a negative because it means they can put all of their attention on their small-craft (which are friggin' awesome) and are spared the massive investment decisions that dreads require. Plus they have 4 move activations which I think pretty much covers the major advantage that dreads offer: firepower for fewer actions.
- And only 2 colony ships. This is undeniably a disadvantage, but considering how much jumping around the board you'll be doing, chances are you'll be using a few influence actions to move disks around throughout the game. Probably more than most races at least.
Beyond these, I'm not really sure what you mean by "SO many" negatives.
Everything else are pluses from what I can see, so long as you stay mobile and aggressive, ideally without pissing off too many opponents at any one time.
