This is news to my ears!
With 2 starting science and a maximum of +9 from trading ALL of their other resources, I don't even think Eridani can possibly do this on round 1 unless they get ridiculously lucky with a science boosting discovery.
Even then, I don't see how this is OP at all considering that all it effectively did is put them on even starting influence disk footing with the other races at the cost of practically their entire starting net worth. Sure they'd have superior tech, but no ships to use it with.
