Please excuse if my last post sounded a bit snappy. I just have a hard time understanding wherefrom your uncertainty concerning the case in question derives.

The relevant and quoted rules section indeed does not state anything about one single unit being of one and the same kind as itself and, as you note, this would be highly ridiculous.

I read 'any other' as meaning 'one of the other two resources'. Maybe that is wrong, if so I must wonder what it supposedly might mean.

So, I understand this to mean, with hindsight to the problem at hand, that each discreet trade encircles paying amount X of one resource and retrieving amount Y of a different resource, where the relation of X to Y is called the 'trade rate'.

The quoted section exemplifies this mechanism using the trade rate of the Terrans, 2 to 1, and goes on to clarify that other species may have different trade rates.

As the rules section on the Rho Indi elaborates only on the exception of the 3 to 2 trade rate solely applying if the first resource is money, but not on any other aspect of the basic trade mechanism being changed, I considered it as a given that this trade is supposed to work like any other with the exception quoted.

I am actually starting to enjoy this.
