They could take a rare tech on any track (as their one research for that track) with the relevant reduction. I think it largely comes out being equivalent to Hydran with a few edge cases where you want to research multiple techs in the same track or such. Developments I considered restricting to "1 or the creative research" but I don't think the extra language and effect on the game is worth it... if someone wants three developments they would just need to have the resources to pay for it.


Played 6 player last night with Psilon (which for years were my favorite MOO race). I was underwhelmed with their racial bonus compared to the Hydrans - who start with advanced science and was able to take advantage of their racial ability almost from round 1. The Psilon was able to research 2 techs on a single turn only once during the entire game, never 3 techs. The star base was nice early defense, but if a tech race has to go defensive early they are in for a rough game.

I understand you don't want to give Psilon advanced science as that would be duplicate to Hydran, but truly the Hydran were most likely based upon the Psilon from MOO, so the Psilon came first :goo: so I say try it and see. The next time we play I will give them Advance science and see how it works.
