I propose this: Primary and secondary marker need to be passed at the same time, i.e. both marker do not change their relative position. This fixes your place in 'actual' turn order in relation to all other players, as is the case in the base game.

Additionally, you are allowed to research with the secondary marker, but only after the player with the primary marker had the opportunity to do so.

Out of everything I've read so far, this is my favorite idea. I simply don't like the idea that the secondary player may be forced to perform an action they don't want to do (instead of passing) while they wait for the primary marker to get to them so they can research. By forcing two players to pass together and keeping the relative distance of the two markers constant and awarding research ties to the primary player, my point is mitigated.

Well, perhaps the secondary marker should not be allowed to research for the first turn as others have suggested?

After more thought, I'd alter it to this:

1) The Primary and Secondary markers need to be passed at the same time so that their relative position to each other does not change.
2) For the first turn of each round, only the player with the Primary marker can Research.
3) After the first turn, players with each marker can Research with ties going to the Primary player.

I think this works nicely.

I worry that the whole "pass at the same time" thing will slow the game down in a variant that is supposed to encourage faster play times...
