You get points only for tiles discarded (resources, tech, etc.) and used as ship parts. I think it is because of difficulty of tracking tiles placed on board (orbital, warp portal). Sampo answered it once but I can't find it.I'm not sure about cruiser - something is placed on board, but you can discard tile.
