Not sure I would put Eridani ahead of Mech, certainly not ahead of Orion, but Eridani could certainly be 3rd with the right techs out. Like guaranteed IH, AR, and a good shot at Fusion source, Adv Econ etc. If I'm not guaranteed IH + AR then I'd probably rather just take Terran.
