You can't repopulate after the battle round if an enemy is in your hex - you can only do this during the action round. What is the best design for the orbital/starbase?
Starts with: 3 power / 1 hull base (preprinted) and ion turret (2x ion, 1 power), hull, hull
A good design would be positron computer in one of the hull slots, or even a regular computer. This way you can absorb 2 plasma hits and still be dangerous. The idea is to use the ion hits as that one last hit you need to blow them up (on enemy designs with 3 or 5 health). Late game you could use gluon computer. I feel like ion turret is already pretty good and not worth upgrading.
So the base ends up being good at supporting and not good at dealing with enemies alone.
Any alternative designs? I feel like it's too sucky to be worth upgrading.
I agree with the suggestion that exiles are unbalanced (too weak) for 2 or 3 player games. I played a 3-player yesterday. I (Magellan) beat up on Exiles in round 5 with 1 dreadnought (he defended with an orbital base and 3 interceptors). I left him alone the rest of the game (but his opponent, Enlightened, did not). Lyra came under heavy attack last round. Exiles came in second with 38, I won with 48. Exiles had problems the whole game getting enough materials. They had plenty of science and money by the end of the game, with orbitals in most of their sectors.
