Sure, you could swap colors if you wanted to, but Draco are on the opposite side of the Yellow Terrans and Eridani are on the opposite side of the Red Terrans, so I don't think it's a stretch to consider those their canonical colors...
I usually play that way as well, but I've been in games where not everyone does. I was just pointing out that certain races don't necessarily have to equate to certain colors....and that goes for the Terran races as well.
Except in the rules they are linked. Using the official rules for picking races, picking the Black Terrans puts Orion out of the game.
It really doesn't matter, but where does it specifically mention Black Terrans (the Terran Alliance are actually brown anyway)? Or any specific color relative to a specific race, Terran or otherwise? The picking races part of the rules has to do with the player sheets, not the colors (in other words, picking the Terran Alliance puts Orions out of the game).
Edit:
The examples in the rulebook actually use different colors for different races:
Page 16 - Planta is black, Mechanema is red, and Hydran are green.
Again, it really doesn't matter.
I agree with mfaulk: the color really do not matter. And: all the terrans are equal, so we first ask the others what alien species they want to be, and then the others pick the remaining terrans.
