Yes, Sentient is great against ancients. No doubt about it. Magellan starts with Fusion source, so they have a very nice energy upgrade waiting for them from the start, but yes, positron does have that cost.
The sentient hull dreadnaught is what I did, but I only used 3 as I found the Axion CPU in a discovery.
In my world the Positron is on of the best bang for your buck tech in the game. That is just me though.
